An interdisciplinary blend of queer and social psychology theory, her dissertation research work utilized quantitative and qualitative methods to explore the role of perceived gender expression – how one “does” gender – and race in exposure to and subjective interpretation of antigay discrimination. This work has shown how embodied adherence to or deviation from gender norms affects the frequency, nature, and subjective experience of discriminatory encounters among LGBTQ individuals and foregrounds the inherently gendered nature of sexual prejudice and discrimination. </span></p> </div> </div> </div> Fri, 04 Nov 2016 20:09:38 +0000 sanderson 3749 at http://www.jjay.cuny.edu Dana Edell http://www.jjay.cuny.edu/faculty/dana-edell <div class="field field-name-faculty-picture field-type-image field-label-hidden field-image-faculty"> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item even"><img src="http://www.jjay.cuny.edu/sites/default/files/styles/faculty_picture/public/DanaEdell_headshot2016.jpg?itok=ePK9GTiB" width="185" height="185" alt="" /></div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-name-faculty-title field-type-text field-label-hidden field-text-faculty"> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item even">Adjunct Assistant Professor</div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-name-faculty-email field-type-text field-label-inline clearfix field-text-faculty"> <div class="field-label">Email:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item even"><a href="mailto:dana.edell@nyu.edu" target="_self">dana.edell@nyu.edu</a></div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-name-faculty-phone field-type-text field-label-inline clearfix field-text-faculty"> <div class="field-label">Phone number:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item even">917-647-0326</div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-name-faculty-education field-type-text-long field-label-above field-text-long-faculty"> <h2 class="field-label" id="faculty-education">Education</h2> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item even"><p><span style="font-size: 14px;">New York University, PhD in Educational Theatre</span></p> <p><span style="font-size: 14px; background-color: rgb(255, 255, 255);">Columbia University, MFA in Theatre Directing</span></p> <p><span style="font-size: 14px; background-color: rgb(255, 255, 255);">Brown University, BA in Classics/Ancient Greek and Theatre Arts</span></p> <p> </p> <p> </p> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-name-faculty-bio field-type-text-long field-label-above field-text-long-faculty"> <h2 class="field-label" id="faculty-bio">Bio</h2> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item even"><p><strong>Dana Edell, Ph.D.</strong></p> <p>Dana is an activist-scholar-artist and the executive director of SPARK Movement (<a href="http://www.SPARKmovement.org">www.SPARKmovement.org</a>), an intergenerational girls’ activist organization where she collaborates with girls to launch successful action campaigns including a media campaign that led to Seventeen Magazine’s public promise to never Photoshop girl models and to commit to race and body size diversity in their pages.
